It's been a long time...
I haven't stopped by my bloggity blog for a while now. Not because I haven't had blogworthy things to say, oh...I have, but I have just been swamped lately. Between crazy work schedules, taking care of the monsters, going to Vegas TWICE in one month (definitely NOT recommended,) and a bunch of other random things I just haven't had the time. Not that there are tons of you out there reading this that just wait on pins and needles for my next post or anything but keep checking in today. I have an AWESOME blog coming your way.

So on Wednesday afternoon I get a text from Ginny saying "Hey, do you wanna go with me to see a show in Hollywood? I'll drive. You know you do so I don't have to go alone." So I quickly say yes because let's be honest, the biggest obstacle to any show in Hollywood is having to drive. So we arrange details and then Thursday morning sometime I realize that I never asked Ginny who was playing so I text her and receive this response, "Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band...They are rad...The guy plays guitar and banjo the girl plays the washboard and they have drums, it's funny."
ummm...SERIOUSLY?
So I started to wonder what the heck I had gotten myself into but I was in it for the long haul and Ginny arrived promptly at 6 to pick me up. We had a wonderful drive to Hollywood, not too much traffic and Ginny and I have plenty to talk/laugh about and then we made a quick stop at Baja Fresh, where we sat right next to the window overlooking Sunset so we could people watch, (an amazingly awesome guy with glasses that were way too big for him and looked a little simpler than most stopped to wave hello to me and flash me one of the biggest smiles ever, so cute,) and then on to Safari Sam's. (Which looks like a great place to grab a bite and check out some local artwork if you're ever in that area.)
Band #1: Ha Ha Tonka. They were awesome. A great way to start the night, a band from the Ozarks in Missouri who have an old country / rock style. They did a song a chappella which was really cool. I highly recommend them.
Band #2: Hazelden. Well, after a great first band that seemed to fall right into the same genre as Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band a female led rock band was not what I was expecting. I just didn't really find Hazelden to my liking and I think because I was expecting something a little more country I was even more disappointed, but not as disappointed as I would be when band #3 took the stage.
Band #3: Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse the Dollyrots came on...I kind of liked that the lead singer looks like the guy from Twisted Sister, (I think Ginny and I were both stunned when she talked and we realized she was a girl,) they were just not my taste. Another rock band with a female lead singer who talked too much. Remember how I said Ha Ha Tonka was awesome and I would highly recommend them, well after this third band I think I like Ha Ha Tonka even more than I did after they first played.
Then the moment we had all been waiting for happened...Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band made an entrance. They came in from the outside with Jayme playing a big drum that said BIG DAMN BAND on it and with the Reverend playing his harmonica. They made their way to the stage and between Reverend Peyton's slide guitar, Breezy's washboard and Jayme's drums it was a whole lot of amazingness. I really enjoyed the show and I definitely think you should check them out ASAP. You can see a You Tube video below of another show they played. They have an album of gospel songs that I want, they did Glory, Glory Hallelujah last night and it was great. The Rev's got a way with a slide guitar, and he even managed to use his harmonica as a slide at one point...and Breezy...that woman plays that washboard and it's just crazy to watch. So, enjoy!
Oh...and my favorite quote from Ginny at the end of the night, "MAN what's going on?!?! I just wanna get home and throw up in my nice toilet!" Oh Ginny!
