God really gets me sometimes.

Life has been really tough for me lately. Maybe I'll blog about that soon...but for now there is this. I got a daily devotional in the email today and it said this:

Return to Your First Love
"Look how far you have fallen from your first love! Turn back to me again and work as you did at first."
— Revelation 2:5

Do you remember when you first fell in love with your spouse? Remember how you wanted to make such a great impression?

You would wear your best clothes, put your best foot forward, and use your best manners. Wherever you went, people could see you holding hands and looking into one another's eyes. Then there were those little gifts you would give to each other throughout the week, just to let each other know how much you loved one another.

What brought you and your spouse together was your desire for companionship, for intimacy, for honesty. But when a husband and wife begin to take each other for granted, that marriage becomes endangered.

A marriage is strong because you make it that way. Romance is kept alive by a conscious effort on your part. Romance is not something that comes and goes. It is something that you keep alive as you take part in the necessary activities to keep your marriage strong and vibrant.

A Christian's relationship with God is similar. This romance that we have with the Lord is more than mere emotion. Our relationship with God involves continually doing the things that will keep us strong spiritually.

Are you taking the Lord for granted today? If so, take the necessary steps to return to your first love—your love for Jesus Christ.

Now I don't have a spouse but I think the message in this is so powerful for anyone, single or married or dating. "Are you taking the Lord for granted today?" I think that most of us probably are, in one way or another. Whether you're like me, so focused and worried that you can't see the positives or whether you just don't care about God at all. Isn't it all a piece of the same thing? I don't want to take God for granted, I want to love him more than anything else, more than everything. I want to find my way back to that peace that only he can give me.

God, forgive me and help me find my way back to your love.

Thanks to a tip from Chris Kretzu

I am now the proud owner of this...

November so far...

Alright now that I got all of my Chicago trip blogged and updated I’m moving on to the recent events of my life. I was looking back at photos and November has been chock full of amazing things. I will try to get them all into one blog (even though my OCD wants them all outlined in separate little blogs specific to each event.)

First up…Faithsnakes, which is Joseph’s punk rock band, he plays drums, and they are pretty cool. Besides the fact that they play punk rock which I love, they surround themselves with pretty amazing people. Katy and I met up in Riverside for their show where we spent some frustrating moments searching for a T-Mobile and later had some even more frustrating moments with a woman on the T-Mobile Customer Support but it was ok because we found boba and made it to the show in perfect time. After they played we hung out in front of the place which was above a gay bar, which doesn’t really matter except for the fact that most of my entertainment came from the transvestite who decided he was going to sit outside of the bar and well act in a way that brought attention to himself. He may have looked like a woman but he sure didn’t act like he was in a skirt like a woman. He asked Katy about her moccasins and had a horrible time understanding her accent. It was hilarious. Then after the Faithsnakes show we headed over to another show, Omar and the Stringpoppers. They were an awesome rockabilly band and their fans were amazing in their 1950’s attire. We had a blast at this show. So many hilarious things happened that I can’t even begin to mention them. All I know is that I learned a whole lot that night and it was awesome.

I found out that Katy loves McDonalds.

This is Omar...or at least I assume that he's the Omar of Omar and the Stringpoppers.

This is Joseph, Katy and I after dancing to Sir Mix A Lot's I like Big Butts and Sisqo's the Thong Song. Don't ask me how that happens after a rockabilly show but it did and it was fantastic!

Dano yelled at Joseph...I won't mention why but I will say this, this girl is awesome. She's hilarious and one of those people that just makes you laugh.

Alright...next up IHOP with Corre, Tony and Katy. This was the morning after the show and Corre's idea. It turned out to be amazing because IHOP has awesome breakfast deals. I had no idea! It was one of those super simple outings that was more fun than it should be. I love it when that happens.

The slowest syrup pourer thingy ever.

Then I found out that if you drive to the very top of the parking structure where Katy "lives" you see tons and tons of hearses and leopard painted limos and all kinds of other creepy, scary, strange vehicles but then you get rewarded with a view of Burbank and the surrounding areas.

And then there was wine tasting. This was to commemorate the birthdays of Danny, Hyochin and Justin who celebrate their birthdays within about a week of one another and in that order. It started off with a party bus at Tim and Kasie’s in Corona that drove us to Temecula and our four wineries of choice. I learned a very valuable lesson that day…when tasting wine don’t taste the full glass. I got really sick after three wineries and didn’t make it to winery number four. I learned that day that wine is something that you should only drink one glass of…PERIOD! I never want to feel like that again. My advice, when wine tasting take one sip and pour the rest of the glass out!

Winery #1 - I did a sampling with a champagne, a white and two reds.

Birthday Boy Justin

Justin really knows his wines, he took courses on wine so he was our little expert and kept telling us to swirl and smell and all this other stuff.

There's birthday boy Danny crouching down, I don't think he could take a serious picture to save his life.

Birthday girl Hyochin and Joe at winery #3.

That's my bottle of Tatria. I actually bought a fancy bottle of wine. I guess I'll just hold on to it for some special occasion.

And here we are at last weekend. Hardcore, metal, whatever you wanna call it has never really been my thing. I don’t mind it, I can definitely pick out good from bad metal but it’s just not something that I especially seek out. That said, Katy asked me to go to a metal show with her and since I wasn’t going to have to pay and I love her, I agreed. Shows are always fun so I went out to Burbank on Saturday night to pick her up and look who I found.

Then after some debate over shows we headed out to Paramount to watch Ryan play with MODF for the last time. We got there just in time to see to watch Ryan and see the boys play. After MODF finished up we found out that there were like four other bands playing before Impending Doom. So Katy and I headed out with Kirk, Carrie and Jessica F. to get some Mexican food. We ended up at a Mexican restaurant that had Saturday night Karaoke! It was so loud that we really couldn't talk to each other at all. It was hilarious...I'm not too sure Katy thought so. But after some amazing food it was back to the show. Kirk, Carrie and Jessica dropped us off and headed back out to Corona and Katy and I waited for Impending Doom to play. We watched some of the other bands, hung out with Ryan and Rochelle, and met a few new people. (Well new to me anyhow.)

Then it was time for Impending Doom to play. I knew that I had no desire to watch them from the crowd. I had already seen two kids with busted eyes and I wanted no part of that. I'm way too old for that crap! haha. So Katy and I watched from a very crowded back stage area and I was amazed! Now I knew going in to this night that Impending Doom is a pretty heavy band to begin with but I have never seen a guy who can swing their head around like their bass player! Their drummer was awesome and of course Brook...that guy really impressed me. I have NEVER seen a crowd react to a band like that. I couldn't even see Brook at one point he had so many kids around him. Kids on stage everywhere, I thought Cory was gonna hit some kid with his guitar. Not on purpose but just because he had so little room to play. It was truly impressive and insane! They made quite the impression on me and I have to admit it was awesome to watch a band play like that for what they believe in and to watch kids respond the way they did. Jesus would be proud boys.

We headed out to Corona after that for some late night Denny's. It was here that I was lucky enough to sit next to Brandon, otherwise known as Btown. This guy...he's hilarious. We shared our love of coffee and I figured out why Katy and Tony love the dude so much. I think we're gonna end up being awesome friends. I can't wait to meet the woman he calls wifey, Alysa, and their baby, (who's still hanging out in Alysa's belly for now.)

So yeah, good weekend. Good people, great shows, new friends, junk food...you know all the makings of a perfect weekend!

Katy put ketchup on her chips...I'm pretty sure that's against the rules.

We made the best of our crazy situation.

Two lovely ladies, Katy and Carrie.

Hahaha...gets me every time. Btown loves Brook...maybe a little too much!

I love this girl. I miss seeing her beautiful face.

And then there were three...

Chicago blogs that is. This is the last one about my trip. It's family time! I spent the last three days of my trip with my family. I got to see everyone in the fam that lives in Illinois. My aunt and uncle who live in "Aurora, a suburb of Chicago," my cousin Kristi and her son Russell, who live in Wheaton and then Lisa and family who live in Hinckley, where there is more corn than I have ever seen. I had a great time with all of them, especially with the kids. It's so crazy to see my cousins with their families. Oh and Lisa did take me to the most amazing place, Portillo's where I had the best hot dog of my life! NO joke, it was fantastic! I never knew hot dogs could be so good.

Now I even get to say that I was in Illinois when Barack Obama was elected president! haha. I mean I was not even gonna try to go to the city, but as I watched in on TV I thought "wow, that's happening just a short drive from here and I'm so glad I am not in that mess!"

All in all, one of the best vacations I've had in a long time. Thank you Chicago!

Something we never see in Cali, a bare tree, a green tree, a red tree and an orange tree and all of them right outside of my uncle's house.

That's Rebekah, my cousin Lisa's oldest.

Kristi and Russell.

Portillo's...mmmmm....

Jacoub liked it too.

Lisa and Matthew.

The corn fields of Hinckley. It was seriously everywhere and we were maybe an hour from the city. Crazy.

And last one of the most beautiful trees I've seen in a long time. I took this when I stopped by the hotel to pick up my phone charger which I had left there on Sunday...oops!

As promised...Chicago blog #2

Wow, it’s been awhile since I’ve come to visit my blog and I’ve been a busy bee. I was just looking through photos and I have so much that I haven’t come over here to blog on so I’m sure there will be a ton of them in a very short period of time.

But…back to Chicago. It’s kind of hard to blog about my vacation because I had such a great time and I really am sad to be back at home. I mean, I love home, but it was such a great trip. Sunday was the day after Leigh’s wedding and I was on my way to the city with Martin, Nicole and Daniella. We wanted to do the architecture tour which is on a boat and they take you around the city and talk about a lot of the large buildings there. We got our tickets, grabbed some breakfast at the Corner Bakery and then headed over to our tour. Luckily the weather was beautiful that day and it wasn’t too cold, although I did have on a short sleeve tee over a long sleeve tee with a hoodie and a scarf so I guess I was kind of bundled up. It was an awesome tour, even if I did doze off a teeny tiny little bit for a minute (which I think Martin may have pictures of.)

After that we said goodbye to Daniella who had to catch a plane back to NYC and headed to the Art Institute of Chicago. There was this beautiful garden where I took this picture of Nicole and Martin. (I think it should be their Christmas photo! haha.)

The museum had a great restaurant where I had an organic rice risotto with butternut squash, pears, pecans and parmesan cheese. It was amazing! Then we ventured into the museum which probably would have taken us forever except for the fact that we were all exhausted. We tore through that museum focused on the sections we wanted to see, ending with the miniatures which were pretty freaking cool. Since we were all beat at this point we headed out to Nicole and Martin’s hotel walking briskly in the sprinkling rain with all the Bears fans that were heading back home from the Bears game. It was really neat and to top it off we stopped at Argo tea where I was able to get Raspberry Bubble tea…it was amazing.

Movember

I got an amazing email a couple days ago from my friend Justin. (I've included it below.) But seriously MOVEMBER! That's so awesome, and for an great cause.

From: Justin
Sent: Tue 11/11/08 8:39 AM

Hi All,
As many of you know during Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'm growing a Moustache. It's a fund raiser for charity which promotes men's health awareness and supports prostate cancer research. Most of the men in our office are supporting the cause and it looks like the 70's around here. If you would like to sponsor me in the fight against prostate cancer your donations would be very much appreciated.

To donate to my Mo you can either:

Click this link https://www.movember.com/us/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink®o=1794246&country=us and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account, or
Write a check payable to the ‘Prostate Cancer Foundation', referencing my Registration Number 1794246 and mailing it to:
Prostate Cancer Foundation
Attn: Movember
1250 Fourth St
Santa Monica, CA, 90401
All donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The money raised by Movember is donated directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation which will use the funds for high-impact research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

Did you know:

Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in the US with one in six American men developing the disease and more than 28,000 men dying of the disease every year.
African American men and those with a family history of prostate cancer are twice as likely to develop the disease and should have regular annual testing starting at 45. All other men should commence testing at 50.
Prostate cancer is 90% curable if detected and treated early.
For those that have supported Movember in previous years you can be very proud of the impact it has had and can check out the details at: [ Fundraising Outcomes ].

Movember culminates at the end of month Gala Partés. If you would like to be part of this great night you'll need to purchase a [ Gala Parté Ticket ].

Thanks for your support,
Justin

Well said Mike Huckabee.

Like so many others, I'm really tired of hearing all of the anti Obama rhetoric. I have told maybe three people who I actually voted for and at this point I really don't think it's important who I chose to be the next president. The truth of the matter is Barack Obama made history and became the 44th president of the United States of America and regardless of whether or not he was my choice, he was America's choice, and I will stand behind that.

I think all of the crazy dissention in the name of God, the country or whatever is just ridiculous and shameful. I read an article today by Mike Huckabee, who if you remember, was a Republican hopeful earlier this year. I think he said it quite well in this article and so many people could stand to learn a little bit from someone who acknowledges that he did not vote for Obama but will support him as his president because it's the right thing to do.

Chicago Blog #1 - My Arrival and Leigh's Wedding.

So, I arrived in Chicago on Friday at approximately 4:30 PM. After a canceled flight and several hours at John Wayne it was nice to finally be on Illinois soil. I made my way to Alamo to get my rental car, which was such a weird experience, you just go out and drive away in a car that has keys in it. It was kind of like stealing a car.

After I got going in my little navy blue Toyota Yaris, I learned right away that the stupid freeways, tollways, highways, whatever you want to call them...all of the on ramps are marked by signs about 2 seconds before you're supposed to turn. EXTREMELY annoying and confusing!

I made it to the hotel about the time that I was supposed to be at Leigh's rehearsal dinner so I said goodbye to my extremely comfortable looking bed, changed and headed out to Home Run Inn Pizza. It wasn't too long after I got there that I saw Daniella, she looked awesome as usual and it was so nice to catch up with her. Leigh sat and had some pizza with us and then Daniella and I headed back to the hotel. It was Halloween but I had no intentions of doing anything but relaxing in my hotel room. So I ordered room service because I was still hungry and spent Halloween 2008 eating a turkey club and watching The DaVinci Code. It was perfect!

Saturday morning was the morning of Leigh's wedding so I found Kim and Steve, we grabbed some Panera Bread and then I headed back to the hotel to paint my toenails, flat iron my hair, you know girl stuff. Kim and Steve stopped by to check on my progress and admire my view.

After we all cleaned up we headed out to the wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony and Leigh looked gorgeous. Since we were lucky enough to be staying at the hotel the reception was at we all went back to the hotel and I got a chance to TRY to rest my eye which was a lovely shade of bright red thanks to my contacts. I need Lasik! Then we all headed down to the hotel bar to await the arrival of The Beisners and to get the party started! We had a GREAT time at Leigh's reception. The California table was filled with good friends, new friends and the DJ who looked like Vanilla Ice. We ate, drank, danced and just partied the night away in celebration. Here's a couple pics for your viewing pleasure.

More to come on my Chicago trip soon.

Didja miss me?

I've been away in the Windy City and I'll update on my trip soon, but for now...I had lunch with Baby Bambi Face (aka Josh,) yesterday. It was so nice to catch up with him and see that he's working on figuring out just who Josh is. I love it when I get to sit down with my younger friends and see how at 21 years old they are just starting out on that whole quest to figure out exactly where they stand and who they are. Joshy, I think you're definitely on the right track. :)
