My father the mountain man.

So I got a call from my aunt today and the topic of my dad came up. My dad is a mountain man. He is the most outdoorsy, wise man that I know and can make everything seem like the most interesting thing ever. He hunts, fishes, camps, mines for gold, etc. Besides his love for computers he is 100% mountain man.

So at the beginning of September my family went on a camping trip. While I was there I spent a day exploring a mine that my dad took a couple of us too and four wheelin' around in Lee Vining and Mammoth. My dad stayed about a week longer than I did and apparently after everyone else went home had an adventure of his own.

The story goes a little something like this...my dad now alone at the campground decided to go out exploring in his Bronco. He didn't really think much of it and headed out and low and behold...got himself stuck in a sand dune. Now there was nothing to tie his truck up to that he could use to try to pull himself out so my dad hunkered down for the night. Now most people would worry...but not my dad. He sat in his Bronco without his ice chest, so no dinner, without any blankets, so it was so cold that he had to turn the car on every now and then and warm up. He only had two bottles of water but, like any mountain man should...he had his LAPTOP! So his cell phone had two bars but wouldn't dial out so he was stuck all alone. My aunt asked him who he would have called, she guessed the fire department or something to come and pull him out, but no...he said he just wanted to call someone to chat because he was "kind of bored." She asked if he had any food while he was out there and he said he had the bag of peanuts she had given him but he was afraid to eat that because he didn't want them to make him thirsty. So he stayed overnight in his Bronco probably playing some games on his laptop and then woke in the morning with a plan to get himself out. He took the mats off the floor put them under his tires and let most of the air out and was able to successfully get himself out.

This is one of the reasons I love my dad. He never felt the need to tell anyone the story and he was perfectly fine out there in his Bronco. He was never worried or scared, just a little hungry and cold. My dad...the mountain man...is AWESOME!

Oh...and I forgot one more detail. After he got back to his campsite in true mountain man fashion...he fixed himself some eggs and HALF A POUND of bacon!
